The first strategy to clean this tired cliche is to eliminate the word “any” and replace it with “the”.
“We regret the inconvenience this may have caused.” – the word any sounds doubtful.
Second, remove the words “may have”.
“We regret the inconvenience this caused.” – the words may have indicates it “may not” have happened.
Lastly, remove the word “inconvenience” and try a different set like:
- we regret the hassle
- we regret the disappointment
- we regret the frustration
- we regret the aggravation
